Da Book

Briefly out of stock while the estate went through probate, we are pleased to announce that the late Frank Dubiel's book on pen repairs is once again in stock. If you want to repair your own pens, or just find out how they work, this is recommended reading.

Dear XXXX,

It seems I always start by apologising for another overdue newsletter; well nothing has changed, this one is once again overdue.

Newly listed stock in this update includes an 18ct Gold Parker 51 as well as a "Bandless" Flighter set, a Lapis Senior Duofold, two "Cloud" series Parker 65s, Conway Stewart 770M & 1206, three PFMs and a couple of Pilot Murex pens to name a few.

Another interesting addition is to be found on the "Parker Post 75" page. There you will find two modern Duofolds that are individually unique. I have seen similar ones sold at auction in London described as "Prototypes". I prefer to call them "Lunch Time Pens" (definitely not regular production), as that is when they were probably made.

Pen Shows

The Chicago Pen Show was a longer than expected trip this year due to high winds at the "Windy City's" O'Hare airport. Departure from LA was delayed by more than two hours, as Chicago was experiencing winds of 30 gusting to 60mph!

The show went off without a hitch for me, but there was no shortage of groans from participants when the main room was closed down early on Saturday for the second year. Trade was generally brisk, but I do know of one pen book author (who puts prices in his books), who didn't sell that well!

Our next show is likely to be Washington DC.

Armadale Antique Centre

For those of you resident in, or visiting Melbourne, come in and see our new "Shop in Shop" at Armadale Antique Centre. As well as vintage and modern pens, you'll find pen sacs, ink, ink remover, pen polish, pen cases, repair manuals and lots more.

New 51 Book

I was privileged to see the "galley proofs" of a new book at the Chicago show. David Shepherd, a long time collector of Parker 51's, has compiled what can only be described as the definitive book on that pen. It is vastly illustrated, with high quality photographs and document reproduction. Having been given unlimited access to both the American and English archives of Parker (now all at Parker Newhaven), the book traces the development and marketing of the 51. Of course David's own, not insignificant, collection includes prototypes and demonstrators, most of which are quite unique.

At this point, the book is likely to be available around November, and the proposed size is around A4 and 150 pages. There was also a suggestion of a limited edition of 51 being printed.
