Will the Real Conway Stewart Please Stand Up

Noticeable on some of the Pen Chat Rooms lately has been some disparaging correspondence on Modern Conway Stewarts. These pens are manufactured and marketed under the old trading name (now re- registered of course) "Conway Stewart", but in reality, that's as close as it gets. The original company traded from 1905 till it was wound up in 1975.
Conway Stewarts from the 1930's through to the early 60's were renowned for their variety of colours, patterns and sizes. They were a budget price pen, always fitted with a Conway Stewart 14ct gold nib, and for the most part were lever fillers. Unlike many recently produced pens, they wrote "straight out of the box". They have stood the test of time, and when found today, need little more attention than a new sac.

Dear xxxx,
We have just updated the Melbourne Vintage Pens web site. New stock includes Parker desk bases by CarltonWare and Stourbridge, Conway Stewart Double Broad Band 60s, PFMs, and a new Bargain Basement page for stock that might otherwise have been offered on Ebay.
To the "Repair Supply & Parts" page we have added O'rings, point gaskets and pure silicone grease for those who service their own Sheaffer PFMs, Snorkels and Touchdowns.

I'm looking forward to the Washington DC Pen Show next month, and another opportunity to visit the Smithsonian. In September, expect to see us both at the New York Show, followed by the London Show in early October.

These rare double broad band models were only sold in Australasia. Seen on models 60 & 60L, they are rare (even in Australasia).

With this page we are going to try something different, including adding new stock between site updates, and reducing the prices every few days until the item is either sold or withdrawn. Not unlike a "Dutch Auction", where the first person to put their hand up is the winner; with this method you buy when the price suits you.

Still likely to be available around October this year, it's apparently now in the hands of the printers.

It's now easier to find parts for a late 1920's Duofold, than a late 1990's Duofold! That's progress for you.
