STYLOPHILES

Having been a disciple of the penlovers.com discussion board since it's inception, the advent and subsequent growth of the E-mag Stylophiles has been exciting. Always great photographs, and balanced but subjective articles. Now it's going into print! From January 2004 it will be a monthly magazine, and the August 2003 Sample Issue shows it will be a winner. BIG punchy photographs, straight shooting reviews on new pens, as well as plenty of content for us vintage people.

Stylophiles is fronted by Dean Tweeddale, Bill Riepl and Dyas Anna Lawson, all pen fanatics! Dean tells me the intention is to keep the magazine 60/40 new pens/vintage pens. This is a balance the other magazines have not maintained.

More on Stylophiles....

Dear *****,

We have just posted the latest update to the MVP website. Additions this month include a Parker T1 Trio, Parker 45 Harlequin set, 50, 51 (Scarce Mk II & Mk III), VP (Stub Nib), 105 set, 180, Sheaffer PFM III set, Waterman Fountainbleau and Pilot Capless (Vanishing Point).

Mabie in America
Much as I hate the E-Book idea (much prefer to read slouching in a deep armchair), I found this web-book by David Moak absolutely compelling reading and a "must have" for my bookshelf.

Don't expect to find just another opinionated book with poorly categorised pictures, and, worst still, values! This is a work of dedicated research into the people and the companies, from John Mabie's birth, until the closing of the US offices of Mabie Todd & Co in 1941. Of course it contains nearly 300 colour illustrations of pencils and pens, ephemera, advertisements, pen boxes, inkbottles, patents, census information, directory listings, imprints, and incorporation/dissolution documents.

Pen Shows

The Washington DC Show was as usual, a great show. It did, however, take me 31+ hours door-to-door on the way in. This was due to additional security measures at my point of entry to the US (San Francisco).

Our next trip is to the London Show the first weekend in October, followed two weeks later by the San Francisco Show on our way home.

We will be closed from 27 September to 21 October inclusive.
